Today, Gavin (15), learned how to use his Google Calendar to send reminders to himself and record things like PE class and birthdays.
How to make his own blog and use webcam photos for his profile. (he has an interesting take on a secular science experiment)
The 13 yr old
learned that though it's fun in a way to be barefoot and step on a cactus, digging them out with a kitchen knife does not make mom happy and the subsequent trip to the Urgent Care costs time and money.
And that he actually likes waiting till Friday to his weeks worth of schooling and having to get it all done. Eating a banana for lunch while taking notes and reading online because he doesn't want to waste time taking a break for lunch
the 11 yr old learned that airplane food is too expensive and to keep your snack bag with you, not in your suitcase

It's cool that Gavin started his own blog. I was going to comment, but didn't want him to think, "Who's this crazy lady commenting on my blog?"
How's Connor's foot doing?
Waiting till Friday to do all his schoolwork sounds like something Levi would do, given the opportunity. He also thinks eating is a waste of time and would much rather snack while doing something else than take the time to sit down to a meal.
I hope Ki didn't starve on the plane, and is having fun in Ohio.
I like that Gavin is creating his own blog page. His lesson sounds like the easiest of the three.
Ouch Connor! What did they do at Urgent Care?
I can imagine Kimberly waiting until Friday. I do remember her waiting for the day before a report was due and typing it, she would always get an A. I imagine she had it all figured out in her head sometime before tackling the actual typing of the report. We did have a computer back then though.
I would have had it all done the first day and have the rest of the week to enjoy my freedom.
Poor Ki, I hope they served him some snacks he could eat on the plane. (sometimes they have pretzels)
We haven't heard from them as of yet.
The link within your blog for Gavin's site doesn't work, however the one on the side bar does. Thanks!
Thanks for the encouragement : ) I know that people have different skills, it always just seemed like math had been disproportionately hard.
So yes, I was home schooled all the way through high school, and it was good. Transitioning to college was a change, but I think in some ways its actually easier for a homeschooler. I mean, it takes a little adjustment to the whole classroom situation, but other than that, you usually have more effective study skills and are able to do things without somebody forcing your to the whole time. So that's my experience so far.
Thanks again!

Sometimes life's lessons are the hardest...
Definitely sounds like an interesting week. My feet ache over that whole cactus incident and I feel great pity for your 11yo.
Gee, I feel like I'm going to write an entry here and I just came over to reply to your comment...
RE: waiting until the last minute to do his work...I have always done this. I work better with a looming deadline. In school I would get great grades on papers I did at the last minute and horrible grades on papers I did all those pre-writes and re-writes and all the garbage they taught us in English.
You do sound like RBLs if you think in pictures instead of actual words. I'll have to look into the Latin roots. Do you have a particular book you recommend?
Also, how did you get that keen side bar thingy for the blogs you like to read?
