I am a very private person, and am not good with over-night guests... Even family! *sigh*Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7850464788578280112.post-34998313486399033202008-12-12T05:36:00.000-08:002008-12-12T05:36:00.000-08:00I remember J-Term. January term.

When I was growing up we would have different students or others in for the holidays. It was great learning from them. With my 6 other siblings the house was filled so much fun!katjanduhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14770732520888255148noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7850464788578280112.post-60862171946564720862008-12-11T20:06:00.000-08:002008-12-11T20:06:00.000-08:00A tip for unpredictable pantry filling. :) We ha...A tip for unpredictable pantry filling. :) We have seriously unpredictable meals here--but I have learned a few tricks with having 5 people at home making mostly their own meals and random company showing up. I keep basics for all their favorite foods on hand--lots of tortillas and cheese for quesadillas, lots of noodles, rice, veggies, fruits, salad, cereal, cheese, milk, flour, eggs. I store a lot of dried stuff away as well as have a deep freezer full of frozen veggies and meat (my stepdad hunts and keeps us stocked with deer.) I also keep onion and veggie flakes on hand as well as Braggs soy sauce. With those basic ingredients I can make all sorts of meals or everyone can fend for themselves. I stock up once or twice a month and make sure I have basics on hand and some noodles or rice or bread made up in the fridge. If we have company I can easily mix some burger, rice or noodles, and frozen veggies with some onion and bragg's for a quick easy meal that tastes good, or we can have quesadillas. You can do the same with whatever your families favorite meals are--keep the dried and canned goods on hand and then you are ready when you need them.

How do you go about getting exchange students--everytime I read about someone doing it I wonder.Heatherhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13735948672915158770noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7850464788578280112.post-56989853799923979222008-12-11T19:22:00.000-08:002008-12-11T19:22:00.000-08:00I totally understand that feeling of exhaustion af...I totally understand that feeling of exhaustion after having company. I can be GO, GO, GO -- planning, cooking, keeping up with everyone's needs, visiting happily -- for a short time. But when it's over, I'm completely wiped out.

For menu plans, I like to have a list of dinners for the week and have the freezer stocked, but I don't commit to a specific schedule. Some will be quick to make, some will take longer but make leftovers, etc. The freezer is my friend! :)Amandahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15729511504280715449noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7850464788578280112.post-18245872817210159922008-12-11T18:36:00.000-08:002008-12-11T18:36:00.000-08:00LOVE the j-term idea! I'm going to have these meals over the next two weeks, maybe not the exact day but I have the food to cook. It takes time but you'll get the hang of it. The menu process saves me lots of money. I would always buy something that was quick and easy for a day I needed something fast. Maybe a mix or something frozen.

You'll be a pro at company by this time next year!

I'm glad you're back posting, I missed you.katjanduhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14770732520888255148noreply@blogger.com
